There’s a version of principled thinking that protects something real: a relationship, a standard, a shared goal that would suffer if you abandoned the position. And there’s a version that has gradually shifted into being about the correctness itself, where standing firm has become its own reward regardless of what it costs the actual situation.

Aquarius can hold a principle with remarkable consistency, even when the people around them have moved on or the landscape has shifted. That consistency is valuable. It becomes less valuable when the thing being protected is the principle’s own integrity rather than the outcome the principle was meant to produce.
