The ten-minute job that takes three weeks is almost never a time problem. It’s a visibility problem wearing a productivity costume. No promises about what happens when you press send — that part was never yours to control. The pressing is yours. That part has always been yours.

Notice the moment, probably mid-afternoon, when a new idea shows up wearing something shiny and check whether it arrives exactly when an old commitment gets hard. New ideas love to time their entrances. They are experts at it. Notice, too, how your body feels in the last step of any small task today: sealing the envelope, hitting save, saying “done.” There’s information in whether that feels like relief or like exposure.
