The theme that day: The goal that hasn't been reviewed in a while

The theme of the day

You’re working toward something. That’s not in question. You’re reliable in this way, and the discipline you bring to long-term work is real. But there’s a goal on your list, probably one you’ve been working toward for a year or more, that was set when the conditions were different: when you were in a different situation, had different information, were a different version of yourself in some small but meaningful way.

The Virgo ingress today is well-suited to exactly this kind of audit. Not the dramatic kind where everything gets reconsidered at once, but the routine check-in where you ask whether the thing you’re currently working toward still reflects what you actually want. Not what made sense when you set it. Not what would look like progress to people paying attention. What you would actually choose if you were setting the goal today, with what you know now.

This is a harder question than it sounds. Capricorn is good at commitment and not always as quick to notice when commitment has become inertia. There’s a version of persistence that serves you: staying the course when things are slow, holding the line when it would be easier to quit. And there’s a version that’s just continuing because stopping would require an admission you’d rather not make. Today is worth asking, plainly, which one you’re in.

The money lens

If the goal has numbers attached, a revenue target, a savings threshold, a benchmark you track, when did you set it? What were the conditions then? Have any of the material facts changed in a way that would shift the number, either up or down, if you were setting it now with a clear head?

You don’t need to scrap the goal. You might just need to update it. A goal that’s been revised because the situation warranted revision is not a failure. It’s accurate management.

What to notice today

Notice whether you can explain, clearly and specifically, why you’re still working toward this particular goal and not a different version of it. If the explanation comes easily, that’s informative. If you find yourself reaching for a reason rather than having one ready, that’s also informative.

Also notice whether you’d be genuinely glad to reach this goal or mainly relieved to have it behind you. Those two feelings point at different things.

A grounding line

Say out loud, or write down, why you’re still working toward this specific goal. If you can’t put it in a clear sentence, sit with that before anything else today.
