There is something sitting in a draft folder, or in a mental one. Something shifted between “getting it right” and “making sure it’s ready,” and you’ve been on the wrong side of that line for a while. What keeps you there isn’t uncertainty about the quality of the work. It’s something underneath the work that sending it would force you to find out. The draft is ready. The question is what happens after it leaves your hands.

If the draft is work-related, get specific: a pitch, a rate increase you’ve been meaning to formalize, a proposal for a new arrangement with an existing client, a message to someone who could move something forward. Notice what piece of information you’re waiting to have before you send it. If that information is certainty about how it’ll be received, that’s not something you can gather in advance. It only exists after.

Work in draft form earns nothing and changes nothing. The extra weeks have a real cost, even when that cost is invisible.

What to notice today

Notice how you describe the status of this thing when someone asks. Whether you say “almost ready” or “still working on it” when what you mean is “I’ve been ready and I haven’t sent it yet.” Those are different situations, and they point to different questions.

Also notice whether the latest edits are genuinely improving the thing or are just touching it, turning it over, keeping it in motion so it doesn’t have to become a decision.
