The theme that day: Being seen wanting it
The theme of the day
Everyone thinks your risk is the spotlight. It isn’t. You can stand in light all day. You were built for it. Your actual edge, the one today keeps pressing on, is being seen wanting something before you have it. Performing success is easy. Performing fine is easier. But letting someone watch you reach, visibly, mid-effort, outcome unknown — that’s the exposure you’ve been managing around.
So you do the Leo workaround: you keep the wanting offstage and only present the finished, gleaming result. The book you were writing for a year before you told anyone. The job you applied for and didn’t mention until you already had the offer, or until you didn’t, and then you buried it. The cost is that nobody gets to help you, and the reach stays private, and private reaches are easier to quietly abandon. There’s no witness to the attempt, so there’s no one to disappoint but you, and you’ve gotten very good at forgiving yourself privately without ever quite moving forward.
I built this whole site for about four months before I told a single person it existed. Not because I was being strategic about a launch. Because if I said it out loud and it didn’t work, I would have to know that someone else knew it didn’t work. So I kept it private, which felt like protection and functioned more like isolation. The wanting stayed hidden because announcing it felt like asking for something I hadn’t earned yet. What I eventually noticed was that I’d also made it very easy to walk away, because nothing was witnessed. Nobody had to watch me try. That made quitting feel almost frictionless. Today, the invitation is small and specific: let one person see one want, in its unfinished state.
The money lens
There’s a number you want, a real one, attached to your name, and you’ve been rounding it down in conversation because the full figure feels presumptuous, like applause you haven’t earned yet. Today, just say the whole number to yourself. Not to a boss, not to a client, not in a negotiation. Alone. Out loud. Notice what your face does when you say it. That flinch, if it comes, isn’t evidence the number is wrong. It’s only evidence that wanting, named plainly, is new material for you.
Say it twice more until it sounds like a fact about the world instead of a confession. Mindset before mechanics. The mechanics keep.
What to notice today
Notice who you perform for today without meaning to. There’s usually one person whose presence turns you two degrees brighter and one degree less honest. Notice what you edit out of the story when they’re listening. That edit is the want, hiding. And notice the compliment you deflect this afternoon. You’ll redirect it with a joke within two seconds. Catch the two seconds. Inside them is the thing you don’t yet believe about yourself.
Also notice the moment when you root for someone else’s visible, public attempt at something. You do it genuinely. The warmth is real. That warmth is also useful information about what you’re capable of receiving, when you let yourself be the one attempting.
A grounding line
You don’t have to earn the wanting. Tonight, write down the want at full size, no rounding, and let it be seen by paper if not yet by people.
