The gap is real, or it isn’t. Either way, how you hold it matters more for what you do next than its exact dimensions. It’s worth asking what a satisfying next step would look like specifically — not the completion, just the next step.

What to notice today

Notice when you describe your own work today and reach for a caveat before anyone has responded. The hedge before the thing lands. The qualification before the sentence is finished. You’re probably doing it for an audience that isn’t even in the room.

Also notice whether the internal standard has an origin point you can actually trace. Did you set it deliberately, or did you absorb it from somewhere you don’t need to keep borrowing from?
