The theme that day: Performing the version they expect
The theme of the day
Leo adapts. Different rooms pull out different versions of you, and the versions aren’t false — they’re real. The confident one in the pitch meeting, the funny one at the dinner table, the grounded one when a friend needs someone to hold the frame. None of these is a lie. But there’s a question worth sitting with today, which is how much of that adaptation is responsiveness and how much of it has become automatic.
There’s a moment, usually fast and barely perceptible, where you register what a room seems to want and reach for the corresponding mode before you’ve actually checked in with yourself. The room that expects you to be magnetic, you show up magnetic. The room that expects you to be the person with the answer, you have an answer. This can look like range and feel like versatility, and sometimes it genuinely is. Sometimes it’s something slightly different: casting yourself before you’ve decided whether the role is the right one.
Today, notice the casting. Not to refuse the role. Just to know when you’re putting it on.
The money lens
This surfaces with particular clarity in negotiations and professional contexts where projection matters. The version of you that held a room with confidence when the numbers underneath the pitch were less clean than you let on. The version that committed to something with certainty because certainty is what the moment seemed to require.
These aren’t dishonest moves. But they carry a cost that can be easy to underprice. When you project more certainty than you have, you also tend to take on more than you’ve fully evaluated, because admitting uncertainty mid-projection feels like breaking character. The confidence works until the gap between the projected version and the actual situation becomes impossible to paper over.
What to notice today
Notice the switch. It’s fast, it’s automatic, and it’s triggered by something — usually a signal from the room about what’s needed. The signal might be the way someone asks a question, or the mood of the room, or a familiar social pattern that you’ve slotted yourself into before. The switch itself isn’t the problem. What you do with the awareness of it might be interesting.
Also notice whether the version you’re showing up as today is the one you’d have chosen if you’d had a moment to think. Not that the answer would necessarily be different. But the choosing matters.
A grounding line
The version of you that performs well in a room and the one that knows what’s actually true underneath: are they comparing notes?
