The theme that day: The one person's verdict you keep waiting for
The theme of the day
You operate well in the open. That’s not ego, or not only ego. It’s a genuine preference for doing real work in full view, where it can be seen and responded to. But there’s one person right now whose response to your work matters to you in a way that’s disproportionate to everything else. And they’ve been quiet.
Not unkind. Not absent. Just withholding something: a word of acknowledgment, a reaction, an opinion you’ve been bracing for or hoping for or probably both. And you’ve been writing the story about what that silence means. Maybe several different versions of that story, depending on the day.
Leo is quite aware of this pattern and remains vulnerable to it anyway. Awareness doesn’t always close the distance. What it can do is create a small amount of space between the waiting and the believing the story, if you catch it while it’s happening.
The cost of this particular waiting is attention. You can’t be fully inside the thing you’re building when a corner of your focus is held in reserve for someone else’s eventual response. The work gets your hands. That one person gets the rest.
The money lens
In professional terms, this looks like holding off on a creative decision because the relevant person hasn’t weighed in. Or calibrating the quality of your output to what you imagine that one person is looking for. Or taking on a project with one eye on impressing a specific audience rather than building the actual thing.
It’s worth examining whether the amount of evaluative weight you’ve given this person is proportionate to what they’ve actually offered you. Sometimes the people we grant the most influence to earned that influence years ago and haven’t been re-evaluated since.
What to notice today
How often you check for a specific message or response today. What interpretation you land on when it isn’t there. Also notice how you’d feel about your work right now if that person’s response simply wasn’t a variable, if it was off the table entirely.
There’s a version of what you’re building that stands on its own merits, separate from this person’s relationship to it. Today is a good day to try to locate that version.
A grounding line
What decision would you make if you’d already accepted that particular answer isn’t coming?
