The theme that day: The recognition you've started intercepting

The theme of the day

It is, technically, your season. The sun has been in Leo for most of the month, and there’s usually some version of feeling more like yourself in this stretch. But something has been happening recently that is worth naming: you’ve been catching the acknowledgment before it lands.

Someone says something kind about your work, or your presence, or something you’ve made, and before they finish the sentence, you’re already softening it. “It’s not really done yet.” “I just got lucky with the timing.” “There’s still a lot to fix.” The qualifier arrives faster than the thank you. The gratitude for the kind words is swallowed by the correction of them. You do this quickly enough that it probably feels like honesty, or modesty. But there’s a difference between accurate qualification and reflexive deflection, and it’s worth knowing which one you’re doing.

Today, the sun is at the end of its Leo passage. Whatever recognition was available to you this month, notice how much of it you let in and how much you redirected before it could settle.

The money lens

The habit of intercepting recognition has a direct relationship to what you ask for, what you accept, and what you’re willing to name as yours. Work you frame as almost done is harder to price than work you present as complete. A project you lead with its flaws is harder to defend, in a rate conversation or a pitch, than one you let speak for itself.

This doesn’t mean pretending things are finished when they aren’t. It means letting the things that are finished be finished, and letting other people respond to those things without you helping them find the reservations first.

What to notice today

Notice how you introduce your work in any conversation today. Literally notice. What words do you use? Do you lead with what the work is, or do you lead with its disclaimers?

Notice also when someone says something positive about something you’ve done and what your first reflex is. How fast does the but arrive? What is it protecting?

A grounding line

The next time someone acknowledges something you made or did, say “thank you” and then stop. Let that be the complete response.
