The theme of the day

You have a clear sense of something. Not vague, not a hunch exactly — clear. The kind of clarity that sits in your chest and doesn’t shift regardless of what the surrounding evidence does. You’ve been carrying it for a while now, in a particular situation, and you know what you know.

The problem is translation. The person or people you’d need to communicate this to don’t process the way you do. You’ve tried the direct version and it landed flat. You’ve tried softening it into something more manageable and it lost the actual content. You’ve tried waiting for the right moment and the right moment keeps not materializing. Every version you construct gets you close, but the core thing (the part you actually know) doesn’t quite make it through intact.

This is different from not being able to articulate something. You can articulate it to yourself clearly. What you’re running into is a communication problem, not a clarity problem. And there’s something worth examining about whether you’re trying to translate to the right person, or whether the person you’ve been trying to reach is simply not the right recipient for this particular knowing.

The money lens

In work terms, this can show up as having a strong read on a situation (a project’s actual viability, what a client really needs, where a strategy is likely to break) that you haven’t been able to get traction on communicating. You’ve brought it up. It wasn’t received. Maybe the structure of the situation makes this kind of bottom-up signal hard to transmit.

One question worth sitting with: is there a different audience for this knowing, someone who would actually receive it? Sometimes the issue isn’t that the knowing is wrong or untranslatable. It’s that you’ve been sending it to someone who can’t hear it yet.

What to notice today

Notice when your understanding of something is clear but your ability to convey it hits resistance. That resistance might be about medium (written vs. spoken), timing (too early, the other person isn’t there yet), or relationship (not enough established for this kind of transmission to work). These are different problems with different solutions.

Also watch for the temptation to make the knowing smaller so it travels more easily. Shrinking it to fit a container it doesn’t belong in tends to cost you the most important part, the part that was actually worth saying.

A grounding line

What you know and what you can currently communicate are two circles that don’t fully overlap. That gap is information about the conversation, not about the knowing.
