The theme that day: The story resolved entirely in your head
The theme of the day
You have already had the conversation. It ran, in full, somewhere between two in the morning and the moment you got out of the shower. You said what you would say. They said what they would say. You responded to that, and they came back with something, and you found your footing, and you know how it ended because you finished it.
The problem is the other person hasn’t had that conversation. They are still in the version of reality where nothing has been discussed. And you are now relating to them, and to the situation, through the filter of the exchange you already completed internally. This creates a particular quality of unreality: like watching a live event when you’ve already read the transcript. You know your lines. You’re not entirely present for theirs.
Today, something may happen that doesn’t match your internal script. That’s actually useful. It means the real version of this conversation is still out there, unfinished, and it may go somewhere your imagination didn’t take it.
The money lens
In financial terms, this shows up as a negotiation or conversation you’ve been avoiding in real life because you already know, in your head, how it’s going to go. You’ve run the objections. You’ve pre-absorbed the rejection. And so you don’t have the conversation at all, because the internal version was already uncomfortable enough.
The internal version is not real. The actual conversation might go differently. You don’t know yet, because you haven’t had it.
What to notice today
Notice where you’re treating something as settled when it hasn’t actually been discussed. The internal settlement isn’t a binding agreement. The other party isn’t a signatory.
Also notice whether the story you finished in your head was generous to the other person or whether you gave them the worst version of what they might say. That tells you more about what you’re afraid of than about what they’d actually say.
A grounding line
The conversation you’ve already run ten times in your head: have it once out loud. Even a scaled-back version is more real than the complete version you’ve only run internally.
