The theme of the day

At some point, maybe a year ago or longer, you made a decision that the people around you questioned. You explained yourself a few times. The explanations didn’t land the way you hoped, or they required more from you than they were worth, or you simply got tired of justifying something that felt obvious to you. So you stopped. You moved forward and let the decision be what it was.

The decision was right. You’re not here to relitigate that. But something happened when you stopped explaining: a small door in a particular relationship closed, without either of you acknowledging it. The person is still there. But something didn’t get said that probably should have, and you’ve both been navigating around the shape of that unsaid thing since. It became a permanent fixture without anyone choosing to make it one.

Today, in the narrow light before the equinox, it may be worth opening that door slightly. Not to revisit the original decision. Just to acknowledge that you know you went quiet on it.

In your work life, this looks like a professional choice you made: a client you let go, a project you declined, a direction you changed. You communicated minimally at the time. What to notice today

Notice the slight tightening when someone references the decision you stopped explaining. That tightening isn’t guilt. It’s the reflex of someone who learned that certain subjects cost more than they return. But today might not be that kind of conversation.

Notice also who’s asking. Someone who challenged you at the time and someone who’s new to the picture are asking very different questions, even when the words look the same.
