The theme that day: The leverage held and not named
The theme of the day
You know something. Or you have access to something, or you occupy a position in a situation that gives you more standing than the current conversation reflects. You are aware of it. The other parties may not be. And you have, at some level consciously, chosen not to surface it.
This is worth examining carefully today, because there are several different reasons why a person might sit on leverage, and they are not all the same. One version is strategic patience — you are waiting for the right moment and you know what the right moment looks like. Another version is ambivalence about the outcome — if you play the card, the situation resolves, and you are not entirely sure you want the resolution that follows. A third version is that surfacing it would require a kind of directness you are not ready for today.
Scorpio can run all three of these simultaneously and tell themselves they are only running the first one. Today is worth checking which version is actually operating.
The money lens
In work and financial terms, this might be information about your value to an organization that you have not put on the table during a negotiation. Or a competing offer you mentioned once and haven’t followed up on. Or a deliverable that is clearly above the scope you were hired for, which you have completed without flagging that you noticed.
The thing about withheld leverage is that it does not keep indefinitely. Circumstances change, the moment passes, the competing offer expires. Today is a good day to ask whether you are still choosing to wait, or whether waiting has become the default because acting requires more than you want to do.
What to notice today
Watch how you feel when you imagine naming the thing directly. Relief is one response. Dread is another. Satisfaction is another. Each of those points somewhere different.
Also notice whether you have been waiting for the other person to notice first. That is a real strategy, but it is also a way of outsourcing a conversation you may need to initiate yourself.
A grounding line
Knowing what you hold and choosing not to use it is power. Not knowing why you’re not using it is something else.
