The theme that day: The price that feels too large to say

Taurus constellation drawn in gold hairline on a deep midnight-navy star field

The theme of the day

You’ve done the work. Maybe it took months. Maybe you’ve finally put a name to a service, a project, a piece of writing, or a product, and the moment to put a number on it has arrived. The number in your head is one thing. The number you actually say is usually a different, smaller thing, and the gap between them is worth examining.

Taurus is often described as being comfortable with material exchange, and in some ways that’s accurate. You understand value. You know what things cost. You’re not naive about money. But there’s a particular kind of discomfort that comes up around being the one to name what your own work is worth, and it’s not always about what the market will bear. It’s about whether you believe the number enough to say it without immediately apologizing for it.

That apology can be subtle. It shows up as a qualifier before you’ve finished the sentence (“I know this might be a bit high, but…”), a preemptive discount before anyone asks, or a silence after you name the price where you feel the urgent need to fill it with reassurance. Notice what you’re doing in that pause.

The money lens

The question today is not whether your number is correct. It’s whether you can hold it after you’ve said it. You have a well-developed sense of what’s fair, but “fair to both parties” sometimes gets weighted more heavily in the other direction than it needs to be. You are also a party to this exchange. The months of work, the expertise you’ve developed, the specific thing you made: all of that belongs in the calculation.

If you’re quoting or pitching something today, pay attention to the pause after you name the figure. That pause is not a crisis. It’s the other person processing what you said. You don’t need to fill it with a lower number.

What to notice today

Notice whether the discomfort around naming your price shows up in other areas too: how you accept a compliment, whether you let others set the terms of an arrangement before you’ve had a chance to speak, how you feel when you receive something rather than give it. The money conversation and the recognition conversation often run the same underlying pattern.

Also notice whether the number you’re holding back is actually your number, or whether it’s the result of a round trip between your true sense of value and what you imagine someone else would consider reasonable. Those are two different calculations, and only one of them belongs to you.

A grounding line

Say the number you mean, once, and then let the quiet after it do its work.
