The Abundance Arcana Your Birth Card reading Birth Card

You asked

Why is it easier for me to give than to receive?

Givers get applause, so it can take years to notice that constant giving is also a way of staying in control of the exchange rate. When you give, you know where you stand: useful, generous, slightly ahead. Receiving is the more exposed position. Someone hands you tenderness and for a second there is nothing to do — no task, no repayment, no performance. Just you, visible, holding something you did not earn by effort. For a lot of warm-hearted people, that second is almost unbearable.

If compliments make you change the subject, if gifts trigger a quiet ledger of what you now owe, if being cared for when you are unwell feels like an imposition you must manage — the question you are carrying is a real one, and it tends to have old roots. Somewhere, receiving may have come with strings, or simply never came, and giving became the safer side of the counter.

Bring to the tray the most recent moment someone tried to hand you something kind — and notice what your hands did with it. That moment is the doorway. One slow breath. When your hands feel quiet, let one of them choose.

Hold the question. Take one slow breath. When your hands feel quiet, open the tray.

Open the velvet tray

The tray holds eight stones. Only one of them is warm.
